Fundraisers FAQ

You can now add a fundraiser to your cell to provide financial support for your organization or to fund a specific project. You have already recruited a bunch of people to join your cell - why not get them to help you out with a little money!

Basic Facts about Fundraisers:
  • You can start fundraisers with a one-time goal and an end date, or an ongoing fundraiser with a monthly goal.
  • You don’t have to meet your goal to get paid.
  • Contributors can use any major credit card and even Apple Pay.
  • Our fundraisers aren’t designed around rewards or buying products, they are for contributing money.
  • You can make fundraisers public so anyone (not just cell members) can view and contribute.
  • Our fees are a very low 4%. This is lower than Kickstarter, Patreon, GoFundMe, and other similar services! We have also partnered with Stripe for very low payment processing fees.

How can I raise funds?

You can start a fundraiser for any cell that you are the admin of. Fundraisers can have a one-time goal or a monthly goal.

One-time goal: People can make one-time contributions any time before the end date. Your fundraiser can be between 2 days and 30 days long.

Monthly goal: People can make one-time contributions or they can subscribe to an automatic monthly contribution.

What information is required to start a fundraiser?

Before you start a fundraiser, you need to have a cell to associate it with. You can start a fundraiser with just a title, a goal amount, and and a description. You don’t need to hook up payment information before starting.

What are the minimums and maximums for dollar amounts and dates?

Fundraiser goals can be for any amount between $5 and $50000. If you are running a fundraiser with a monthly goal, these amounts apply to the monthly goal. Fundraisers with a one-time goal currently have a maximum length of 30 days.

What payment methods can I use to contribute to a fundraiser?

You can use Visa, Mastercard, and American Express from any country worldwide. In the USA other major credit cards are also supported (Discover, JCB, Diner’s Club, etc.) You can also contribute with Apple Pay on iOS.

What countries does fundraising work in?

To start a fundraiser, you need to have a US bank account or debit card. To contribute to a fundraiser, you can be anywhere.

What are the fees?

Celly's fee amount is 4% to help fund our service. This is lower than Kickstarter, Patreon, GoFundMe, and other similar services! Our payment processor charges 2.2% (3.5% for American Express, which has very low usage) plus $0.30 per successful contribution. This processing fee is also very low compared to other services, and is the same for contributors worldwide.

When do I get charged when I contribute?

You will be charged immediately. If you are contributing monthly, you will be charged on the same date that you originally contributed every month.

When do I receive the money for my fundraiser?
Transfer initiation date:
  • For one-time fundraisers, the transfer initiation date is three days after the end date for the fundraiser.
  • For monthly fundraisers, the transfer initiation date is the third of the following month.
Money will be in your account:
  • If you are receiving money to a debit card, it can take 1 to 2 days after the transfer initiation date to receive your transfer.
  • If you are receiving money in your bank account, you will receive the transfer the next day after the transfer initiation date. If the transfer fails due to a typo in bank information or other details, it can take up to five days to detect the failure. Contact for help.
If there is a problem:
  • It can take up to 5 days for us to find out if there is a transfer problem.
Does Celly verify the projects and fundraiser?

We want to make fundraising as easy as possible while maintaining trust. We don’t manually validate the nature of each fundraiser, but we verify the tax information and legal name of the recipient to make sure that they match. If you are contributing to a fundraiser, it is your responsibility to make sure you are comfortable contributing, and that you don’t expect anything material in return for your contribution.

Can Celly provide tax-deductible receipts for contributions to nonprofits?

We don’t provide this yet but we are working on it! Please check with a licensed tax professional, but if you are giving less than $250 to a recognized nonprofit, you generally don’t need a receipt.

How does ending a monthly fundraiser work?

When you end a monthly fundraiser, all monthly contribution subscriptions are immediately ended, and nobody can start a new contribution. You will be paid on the normal schedule at the end of the month for any contributions you received during the month before you ended the fundraiser.
